You may find it easier to 'back into' writing for your newsletter if you start with a blog. You see, while your newsletter is great to stay connected and convey your value to your existing mailing list, a blog - from which you can craft your newsletter content - will do so much more. A well crafted blog is one of the important ways that Google understands what you do and offer. It's how Google knows whether to include you in someone's search results. Also, a blog, typically refreshed with some regularity, is a sign to Google that you've been updating content, another gold star! Third, a blog can help create backlinks to other sites that improves your 'link juice' - your credibility in your field.
